1 dead in officer involved shooting in Buckeye

A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Buckeye Saturday afternoon.
According to officer Dan Hoffmeister with the Buckeye Police Department, officers responded to a residence following a 911 call requesting a welfare check in the 2000 block of Wayland Drive.
When officers arrived, they were fired upon at which point officers returned fire.
Hoffmeister said a man is dead, but he wasn’t sure if the man died as a result of officers returning fire or if it was s suicide.
“At this point, we do not know,” Hoffmeister said. “We are treating this as an officer-involved shooting and we do have the assistance from the department of public safety.”
Police said that no officers were injured.
