VALDOSTA, Ga. (AP) – Officials at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia say a reported threat that prompted a lockdown was a false alarm.
In a news release, officials said lockdown conditions at the south Georgia base went into effect at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday after reports that airmen on the base were receiving automated voice messages containing an unspecified threat. Officials did not release the content of the messages. They said they are investigating the source of the phone calls.
Emergency personnel responded to the situation and quickly determined a threat did not exist. By 3 p.m., the base was secure and the lockdown was lifted.
Moody is home to the Air Force’s 23rd Wing and 93rd Air Ground Operations Wing. It is located in Valdosta, about 30 miles from the Georgia-Florida state line.
