PHOENIX — Another day, another fake rumor about a movie filming in Arizona.
This week, website KMT11.com, which masquerades as “your source for local news,” claimed a new “Harry Potter” movie would be filmed in Chandler, a suburb of Phoenix.
The site said the film would be called “Quidditch Through the Ages” and would be based on the book of the same name penned by J.K. Rowling. It also said stars of the original series — Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint — would reprise their roles as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.
The story additionally claimed numerous local extras would be hired to appear in the film.
But don’t get your robes and broomsticks ready just yet: The story is clearly fake.
Under the site’s “About” tab, there is a simple sentence explaining the nature of the site: “KMT 11 is a fantasy news website. Most articles on kmt11.com are satire or pure fantasy.”
Earlier this year, a similar site posteda new “Star Wars” movie would film in Surprise and extras would be hired. Alas, that turned out to be false as well.
“We wish this story was true,” a city spokesman said in an email.
Consider this your daily reminder to always fact-check what you read on the Internet, or else you may be getting your dress robes dry-cleaned and wand flick perfected for naught.
