WHITE SETTLEMENT, Texas (AP) – Police say the theft suspect who managed to escape from the back of police squad car while handcuffed and make his getaway in the car has been arrested.
White Settlement Police Lt. J.P. Bevering says a tip led detectives to stake out a location in Fort Worth where Darren Porter showed up. Police arrested Porter on Wednesday without incident.
Bevering says Porter faces theft, escape and unauthorized use of a vehicle charges. Bond was set at $225,000 and Porter was scheduled to go before a judge Thursday.
Police detained Porter on Friday for theft. He was left handcuffed in the back of the squad car, but managed to lower the window, reach out and open the door. Police say window switches in the back of their cars have been disabled.
