Now departing: American Airlines announces Tucson-New York City flights

PHOENIX — Tucson residents will soon have a new way to get to the Big Apple, via American Airlines.
The company announced nonstop service between Arizona’s second-largest city and New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on Tuesday.
“This flight is critical to the growth of our business community and our vibrant tourism sector,” Tucson Metro Chamber President and CEO Michael Varney said in a press release. “Making Tucson easy for business and leisure travelers to access from New York City opens the door for more commerce in our region.”
Prior to the announcement, Tucson was the largest American city lacking a direct flight to New York City.
The flights are scheduled to begin Oct. 7. Tickets are already being sold.
