LOS ANGELES (AP) – The space shuttle Endeavour will make its final journey next month _ a piggyback ride to Southern California, where it will be prepared for a road trip to a new home in Los Angeles.
Officials announced Wednesday that the shuttle will be flown into Los Angeles International Airport on Sept. 20 atop a Boeing 747 and it will remain at LAX until Oct. 12, when it will begin a two-day, 12-mile journey to its final home at the California Science Center near downtown.
Hundreds of trees, signs and streetlights will be removed to make way for the five-story-tall spaceship.
It will go on display on Oct. 30.
Endeavour completed its 25th mission last year. Its final journey will be something of a homecoming because it was assembled in Southern California.
