Tempe City Council attempting to close pay gap between men and women

May 19, 2016, 5:15 AM

The Tempe City Council’s trying to close the pay gap between men and women.

A test, of sorts, is the first step.

“It’s a self-assessment tool, we’re going to develop with ASU,” councilwoman Lauren Kuby said. “A business will actually be able to demonstrate they’re an equal pay business.”

If businesses score high on the assessment, Kuby says they’ll get a window sticker showing they’re an equal pay partner.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says women still make less than men over 50 years after the Equal Pay Act was signed.

We want to hear from you.
