PHOENIX — Police and the FBI were investigating a report that a Phoenix-area junior high school student hacked a school district email account.

The child, who attends Highland Junior High in Mesa, reportedly got hold of a teacher’s sign-in over the weekend and used that to send tasteless emails to other students.

Gilbert Public Schools officials (the school is part of that district) said the technology department disabled the teacher and student accounts.

A letter from the Highland Junior High’s principal said two messages were sent before plug was pulled on the accounts.

The letter said Mesa Police had also been contacted.

District officials said the investigators had the employees’ complete cooperation.

The school near Guadalupe and Power roads opened in 1998. The students are seventh- and eighth-graders.

The students have two days of finals this week. Classes end Thursday with a half-day.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
