Phoenix police are turning the red light traffic cameras back on in Phoenix.

When Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich issued an opinion in March that all photo enforcement companies must be licensed private investigators, Phoenix turned its 12 cameras off. That’s because the company that runs them, Redflex, didn’t meet the Attorney General’s requirements.

Phoenix Police Sergeant Jonathan Howard says that has changed.

“Late last week, we received verification through DPS (The Arizona Department of Public Safety) that our vendor, Redflex, had come into compliance with the Attorney General’s recent opinion,” Howard said.

So now, the cameras are going back on.

“This Wednesday at about 7 o’clock in the morning, we are going to start using all of our mobile speed enforcement cameras and red light cameras that had been in use for some time,” he said.

They are located at various places around the city.

“Our cameras are our stationary cameras for our red lights, and that’s based on our collision data for the prior year,” said Howard. “We’re looking to target our most dangerous intersections.”

The 12 intersections were the cameras are located are:

12th Street and Camelback road

16th Street and Jefferson Road

53rd Avenue and Indian School Road

24th Street and Thomas Road

Central Avenue and McDowell Road

67th Avenue and McDowell Road

35th Avenue and McDowell Road

50th Street and Ray Road

35th Avenue and Cactus Road

Tatum Boulevard and Thunderbird Road

7th Street and Bell Road

35th Avenue and Glendale Road

We want to hear from you.
