Say cheese! Phoenix-area city to reintroduce traffic cameras at several locations

PHOENIX — If you happen to live in or drive through Chandler, you may notice something new along the roadways: starting Monday, the city will be reintroducing photo-enforcement cameras at seven intersections.
Chandler Police Sergeant Joe Favazzo said the cameras will be reactivated at seven locations on Monday before starting week-long testing.
The seven intersections are:
- Eastbound Ray Road at Alma School Road
- Westbound Chandler Boulevard at Dobson Road
- Westbound Warner Road at Alma School Road
- Southbound Alma School Road at Warner Road
- Westbound Chandler Boulevard at Kyrene Road
- Southbound McClintock Drive at Ray Road
- Eastbound Ray Road at McClintock Drive
Favazzo said the cameras were reactivated for two reasons: to generate revenue for the city and to provide safety to drivers.
“There’s no denying that there is revenue that’s generated from it,” he said. “But far more important is the fact that the cameras — along with all the other things — that the city has done to make our streets safer.”
The cameras were shut down earlier this year after Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich determined the company running them needed additional certifications and licenses.
