With their newest location at The Colony in north-central Phoenix off of 7th Street just north of Missouri Avenue, this Herb Box, like their other locations, oozes with charm.
The décor is mostly modern with some rustic flares. The tall ceilings give this space an open and airy feeling while subtle touches — such as the lighting and wood beam ceilings — give a lodge-like feel. An exposed brick wall and wood paneling wall add to the comforting atmosphere.
Always offering a great variety of quality food, the menu is filled with Herb Box favorites, along with some new additions.
On this particular lunchtime visit, the waiter recommended the crisp Brussels sprouts to start — pieces of Brussels sprouts lightly fried to a slight crunch and then sprinkled with sea salt. The bed of Brussels lay atop a vegan aioli that is delectable and complements the sprouts perfectly.
For lunch, I chose the Blackened Salmon BLT. The salmon was blackened to a nice medium and topped with organic arugula, bacon, tomato and red pepper aioli tucked into a delicious ciabatta bun. This sandwich was excellent and served with homemade sweet potato chips. I would tag it as the perfect lunchtime meal.
Side note: Herb Box uses only nitrate-free natural bacon with all their dishes, which is a bonus!
Some of my other Herb Box favorites include:
The Serrano-Avocado Shrimp Salad with crispy shrimp, organic arugula, crisp fried fennel, pancetta, sweet hot serrano glaze and lemon-honey vinaigrette, all laying on top pieces of avocado toast.
The Char-Grilled Kobe Burger with bacon, brie, apple-jicama-watercress slaw, smashed fingerlings, crisp fired sage and smoky blue cheese. Yum! Served with a side of splendid homemade potatoes fingerlings/wedges makes this burger dish out of this world!
The Herb Box is a great Arizona local restaurant chain and I am thrilled they have expanded to the north-central part of Phoenix. This is already a personal favorite of mine and, now with three locations looks, like I’ll be making more visits to the Herb Box!
