Police to probe Reno photographer abuse complaint

RENO, Nev. (AP) – Police in the Nevada city of Sparks have been asked to investigate a Reno newspaper’s complaint that one of its veteran photographers covering a brush fire was roughed up by sheriff’s deputies who forced him to the ground and cited him for obstructing public officers.
Washoe County Sheriff Mike Haley says that after reviewing the initial report on the case he decided it was appropriate for an outside agency to conduct the formal investigation.
He said in an email to Reno Gazette-Journal Editor Beryl Love his agency won’t be involved in the matter any further until Sparks police complete their work.
Dunn was taking photos of the fire that destroyed two homes in Sun Valley on Monday afternoon when he says sheriff’s deputies confronted him and accused him of impersonating a firefighter.
