BOSTON (AP) – Massachusetts Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren says she didn’t reveal until this week that she told past employers about her Native American ancestry because she needed more time to recall actions and events of years ago.
In an interview on Friday with The Associated Press, Warren sought to address questions raised about her heritage, which has not been documented. She also explained why she had not revealed that she told Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania of her heritage.
The Harvard Law School professor said she and her brothers were told as children their parents were forced to elope because their father’s family objected to his mother having some Native American ancestors.
Warren’s comments on the controversy came one day before the Democratic State Convention in Springfield
