PHOENIX — In an effort to improve the statewide voting system amid issues with the Arizona presidential preference election, Secretary of State Michele Reagan announced her office would implement a new online system for public office applicants.
Applicants who are seeking to run for state or legislative office can now do so online, according to a recent press release.
Starting on May 2, candidates will be able to file political committees, nomination paperwork and financial disclosure statements on the Secretary of State’s website.
In the press release, Reagan said the “innovative” system will allow prospective candidates to file and run for a state or legislative office without having to travel to her office in person.
“From day one we’ve tried to make the Department of State more accessible to all Arizonans, not just those in the Phoenix metro area,” the release read. ” The implementation of this system marks off another item on our to-do list!”
For those looking to run for office in the upcoming election, the filing period will run from May 2 to June 1. The election will take place on Aug. 30, with early voting starting on Aug. 3.
This election will allow voters who are not registered with either the Democratic or Republican parties to vote as well.
