PHOENIX — An Arizona state trooper who died on the job will be remembered Friday at the unveiling of a memorial stone in his honor.
The ceremony was scheduled for 10 a.m. at the department’s Knutson Station, near 16th Street and University Drive in Phoenix.
Christopher Marano died in December 2009 during pursuit of a stolen vehicle along the Loop 101 near Phoenix.
Marano, 28, was struck and killed by a patrol car involved in the pursuit as he laid out spike strips. The strips puncture tires, which generally lead to disabling a car.
He served with the department for 3½ years and left behind a wife, Shelly, and four children.
“It is our honor to dedicate the memorial stone in Chris’ memory, so every trooper that steps into the Knutson substation can reflect on the ultimate price that Chris gave. This will in some way give closure to Chris’ end of watch,” DPS Capt. Peter Borquez said in a statement.
Marano’s family and friends were expected to attend and department officials said the
public was welcome to attend.
