PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Thousands of people have marched in Philadelphia to support the family of an unarmed black teenager shot to death by a neighborhood watch captain in Florida.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports (

Police say the march started with 2,500 people but grew as it proceeded through downtown. Final police crowd estimates ranged from 5,000 to 8,000.

No arrests were reported.

Groups gathered in New York and Miami on Wednesday to voice outrage over the shooting.

Neighborhood crime watch captain George Zimmerman says he shot Martin in self-defense. He hasn’t been arrested. His father is white; his mother is Hispanic.
