PHOENIX — Two theater chains in Arizona will honor the memory of the late singer Prince with special showings of “Purple Rain.”
The film will be showed at both Harkins and AMC theaters.
Harkins will show the film on Tempe Marketplace 16’s largest screen, the Cine Capri, which stretches 70 feet. The theater is located near the Loop 101 and Loop 202.
“Prince was a true artist and an electrifying performer whose music influenced many generations” Dan Harkins, owner of Harkins Theatres, said in a press release.
“Prince’s performance in ‘Purple Rain’ is one of the most memorable music experiences to hit the big screen,” he continued. “He will be deeply missed.”
The film will be shown at Tempe Marketplace on both Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m. Tickets for each screening are $5 and are available both online and at the box office.
Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to City of Hope, a charity that treats and researches cancer and other deadly diseases.
AMC will screen the film from April 23 to April 28 at three theaters in the Phoenix area: Ahwatukee 24, Arizona Center 24 and Westgate 20. Tickets and showtimes are available online.
Prince passed away at his Paisley Park studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota, near his hometown of Minneapolis on Thursday. He was 57.
Prince was one of the best-selling artists of all time. He sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
This is not the first time Harkins has honored a late celebrity with a special screening. The chain did the same when Robin Williams, Alan Rickman and David Bowie passed.
