TYLER, Texas (AP) – An East Texas constable arrested on federal drug and firearm charges has appeared before a federal judge in Tyler.
The U.S. Attorney’s office says authorities arrested Benjamin Thomas Ferrell of Henderson Thursday, one week after his indictment. He made his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Judith Guthrie Thursday afternoon.
Prosecutors allege that the 36-year-old Ferrell conspired to possess with intent to distribute several drugs including hydrocodone and marijuana and sold an assault rifle to a known felon. Information about Ferrell’s legal representation was not immediately available. A call made to a number listed for Ferrell was not immediately returned Thursday.
If convicted, Ferrell faces up to 20 years in prison for the drug charges and up to 10 years for the weapons charge.
