Handyman gets 25 to life in NYC skyscraper killing

NEW YORK (AP) – A handyman found guilty of suffocating a cleaning woman and stuffing her body in an air conditioning duct in a New York City office tower has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

Joseph Pabon was sentenced on Tuesday after being convicted in April of kidnapping and murder.

Cleaner Eridania (erh-ih-DAHN’-yah) Rodriguez disappeared while working at a Manhattan skyscraper a few blocks from the World Trade Center site in July 2009. Her body was found after a four-day search.

The 46-year-old Rodriguez was a sister of professional bodybuilder Victor Martinez. She was from the Dominican Republic and had lived in Manhattan for decades.

Prosecutors say Pabon tracked Rodriguez down and killed her on a deserted floor.

Trial lawyer Mario Gallucci (gah-LOO’-chee) said authorities rushed to blame Pabon for a crime he didn’t commit.
