CHICAGO (AP) – Officials say one student has died and another is hospitalized after a stabbing at a Chicago school for children with behavioral and emotional needs.
Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez says a third student is in custody after the Thursday morning stabbing.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death but no other information about the teen was immediately available.
Perez says police responded to AMIkids Infinity Chicago on the city’s far South Side about 7:30 a.m. after the stabbing in the school’s doorway. Chicago Public Schools spokesman Frank Shuftan says students were entering the building at the time.
Shuftan says the school is run by a private company that contracts with the district. It serves about 20 students with behavioral and emotional needs.
