PHILADELPHIA (AP) – A Philadelphia man charged with gunning down a group of teenagers over their feud with his stepsons is due in court Feb. 1 on three counts of murder.
Court records show that 30-year-old Axel Barreto has a long arrest record in Philadelphia, although several of the drug, theft and firearms charges were eventually dropped.
Police say Barreto ambushed a carful of seven teenagers outside a house, firing more than a dozen times. The gunfire killed 14-year-olds Joshua Soto and Dante Lugo and 16-year-old Javier Orlandi. The 16-year-old driver is recovering from a neck wound.
Authorities say Barreto was cooperative after his arrest at a motel Wednesday night.
Police say the feud stemmed from a school dispute that spilled on to Facebook.
It’s not immediately clear if Barreto has a lawyer.
