LOS ANGELES (AP) – A man was shot to death while trying to stop his grandfather from being robbed, police said Tuesday.
Danilo Estuardo Morales, 24, was shot in the head while chasing the robbers Monday evening outside a North Hollywood home, a police statement said.
Three males between 15 and 20 years old fled in a white Mitsubishi Montero SUV.
The 60-year-old robbery victim had parked his car at the rear of a residence. He was walking to the house along a long driveway that wasn’t well lit when he was confronted by the three men, investigators said.
The grandfather yelled, drawing the attention of his grandson.
According to KTTV, the thieves were able to grab the grandfather’s wallet and a necklace, and they got into the SUV. The grandson broke the rear window and was shot when he approached a side window, according to police.
The wounded man was taken to a hospital where he died.
The dead man’s mother, Ana Flores, sobbed during a KTTV interview and urged the robbers to surrender.
