Wash. boy who collapsed at practice dies

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 14-year-old La Center, Wash., boy who collapsed during a middle school basketball practice has died in an Oregon hospital.
Legacy Emanuel Medical Center spokeswoman Amber Shoebridge announced Cody Sherrell’s death in a statement late Monday night. He had been hospitalized in critical condition in Portland, Ore., since his Jan. 3 collapse. Coaches had performed CPR.
On Monday, the parents of a Salem, Ore., boy who collapsed Friday evening at a youth basketball practice in that city released a statement through another Portland hospital, thanking all those who have offered prayers and support.
An OHSU Doernbecher Hospital spokeswoman said Isaac Arzate was in good condition Monday after being listed as critical through Sunday.
