PHOENIX -- KTAR has obtained court documents in two separate court cases involving Jerice Yaton Hunter, the mother of a little girl who went missing from their Glendale home on Wednesday. After nearly 48 hours, the Amber Alert for 5-year-old Jahessye Shockley was canceled Friday morning.
In April, 2000, Hunter was charged with a single count of misdemeanor corporal injury to a child in Solano County Superior Court in California. The case was dismissed later that summer for reasons not immediately clear.
• Here is a copy of those 2000 court documents.
In October, 2005, Hunter was charged with six total felony abuse counts in Solano County Superior Court in California. One of those counts was for felony torture and the remaining five were for corporal injury to a child.

The charges in 2005 did end with a conviction on the corporal injury counts, but the torture charge was removed as part of a plea agreement. Hunter was sentenced to approximately eight years in prison, but did not serve eight years.
In 2008, an appeal in her 2005 case was denied. Court documents obtained from that appeal outline the original accusations against Hunter.

According to those documents, Hunter was accused of whipping at least two of her four children with an extension cord. A 14-year-old son also stated to police that he was punched during an argument about him going outside to play, and that was after years of repeated punching and whipping incidents.
A 3-year-old child also acknowledged that she was whipped by Hunter. Police also learned that a 7-year-old child was whipped just days before their interview, and Hunter's boyfriend helped restrain the child.
