PHOENIX -- St. Luke's Medical Center in Phoenix can now treat burn victims.

The new Grossman Burn Center at the east Phoenix hospital has eight intensive-care rooms and hyperbaric oxygen chambers. Those are giant tubes where patients of all ages lie and breathe in high-level oxygen. Studies have shown this treatment can help the body recover from injury.

The Arizona Republic reports St. Luke's Medical Center becomes the fifth hospital with a Grossman Burn Center. Three of the centers are in California and one is in Louisiana.

The founder of the Grossman Burn Centers, Dr. A. Richard Grossman, says St. Luke's and the other four centers offer comprehensive long-term care and rehabilitation for burn victims.

In addition to plastic surgeons, other specialists including psychologists and hospitalists work at the center to ensure burn patients receive mental-health care as well as medical treatment.
