Woman found dead inside Surprise home with no AC

SURPRISE, Ariz. - Authorities say a 70-year-old woman has been found dead in her Surprise home and it's being blamed on the heat.

The Surprise Fire Department responded to a medical call Wednesday morning and discovered the body inside a home that had an internal temperature of 107 degrees.

The name of the woman hasn't been released.

Fire Capt. Renee Hamblin says an air conditioning repairman was on the scene when fire crews arrived. He told them that he was at the home Tuesday night before trying to fix the AC unit.

Hamblin says the repairman offered to place the woman in a hotel for the night until he could make the needed repairs, but she refused. The woman also refused a neighbor's offer for her to stay the night in their home.
