McCain: US should lead the way in Libya aid

by Colin Smith/KTAR (August 22nd, 2011 @ 3:48pm)

Arizona Sen. John McCain said the United States must lead the world in providing support to Libya as they begin their post-Gadhafi era.

"I think we would be well-served if we make sure that there is not an extremist takeover or hijacking of this revolution," McCain said.

McCain appeared on CNN's "The Situation Room", where he said an earlier and stronger showing of power by the U.S. in the air could have shortened the conflict significantly.

"The only thing that was holding [Gadhafi] in power was money and fear," McCain said. "Once those are dissipated by military strength, it is very difficult for anyone to be loyal to Gadhafi."

President Barack Obama made an error when he let NATO forces to take the lead in Libyan operations, McCain said.

need to send more tax dollars out of the country..... giving it to more unappreciative countries that may or may not really need it.

All the wealthy people that think they don't pay enough taxes (like Warren Buffet) and don't know what to do with all their money. Write your checks directly to China without the money passing into the hands of our government. Run it like a telethon so we can all see what we are able to do for each other as Americans. Stop wasting your money giving it to politician to run their elections. I believe we would have the deficit paid off within a few months.

Why don't you get all your good friends in Congress together and shake some of their pension income out of their hands to show our countries good will. Those that are in Congress cut their benefits in half retro-active and pass the collection plate for our deficit.

Senator McCain, not enough war to make you quit involving the US men troops in world conflict? Seems to be a generation of warmongers still pushing us into harms way. Is it for corporate interest we are fighting and not the liberty we claim to establishing elsewhere. Are we still fighting for and defending "potential democracies". If we would set the example of prosperity rather than bully our selves into other countries' business, we would accomplish more friendships. As it is, we are seen as arrogant imperialist still today. Take care of our own business adequately and prove your worth.
