PHOENIX -- Two of Arnold Schwarzenegger's children posted on Twitter shortly after learning their father had a child out of wedlock -- but a Valley counselor said turning to the social media at a time of family crisis might not be the best idea.
Patrick Schwarzenegger, 17, and his sister, Katherine Schwarzenegger, 21, both indicated disappointment, but expressed their love for their family.
Sandra Nettles with Deer Valley Counseling cautioned against posting on social media, saying that feelings may change over time.
"Once it's out there, you can't take it back," Nettles said. "I've worked with a lot of kids who said things and they lived to regret it."
She said a social network of "friends" can't replace a strong group of trusted people who will listen and understand.
"Someone who's going to be able to listen and not take sides or put them down for the way they're feeling."
Twitter and Facebook have created a question of healthy boundaries about privacy, for both children and adults, said Nettles.
"What somebody feels in the immediate may be very different from what they feel after they have had time to process it."
She also said that some people on a social network might not always have another person's best interests at heart.
