D-backs agree to minor league deal with Benson

The Arizona Diamondbacks and pitcher Kris Benson have agreed to a minor league deal.

The deal is likely because Brandon Webb is still having problems and is unsure if he will be able to start the season with the Diamondbacks.

The right hander spent part of 2009 with the Texas Rangers. Benson went 1-1 with a 8.46 ERA in eight games, two of those being starts.

Benson was out of the majors in 2007 and 2008 after he ran into rotator cuff problems. He had surgery in 2007.

Webb has yet to take the mound for a Cactus League game and it is starting to become more evident he will start the season on the disabled list.

Benson is signed to a minor league deal with incentives bumping up his salary if he pitches for the Diamondbacks.

Prior to his surgery, Kris was a rising star as a pitcher---- hopefully he can recover; still a good financial risk to take
