WOW! All I can say is wow. The "chicken little" factor here in the valley is amazing to me. The way the city as a whole runs into their sports panic room at the same time is just inconceivable. The Cardinals lose three players and all of a sudden it is back to 2002. RELAX PHOENIX! Everyone sit down, take three deep breaths, and relax. Let's look at what the Cardinals lost-
Antrel Rolle - A good secondary player who was three inches away from costing the Cardinals the playoff game against the Packers.
Is there anyone in the valley who considers this man to be the highest paid safety in NFL history? What was it about him that the Giants felt was record breaking?
The way he disappeared in many games, or the way he was burned so many times. I know it is easy to kick someone when they are out the door, so I will not do that - Rolle was a good safety and a good part of this team, but NOT worthy of what he got from the Giants. $15 million guaranteed saved.
Karlos Dansby - A good tackler, but not worthy of $22 million guaranteed money. Just look at that number and let it sink in. Are 100 tackles a year worth that much money? I would venture to say no. He is almost 30-years-old and sure to be on the decline well before his contract is up. $22 million guaranteed saved.
Anquan Boldin - Q deserves his own article but to keep it short I will say - good riddance - this is one player I will kick on the way out of the door. Self centered, all about me, and more worried about his contract each year than his team. On the flip side, he is a warrior. He personifies what a tough, hard-nosed football player is all about. $10 million guaranteed - no thank you Q. We do not need four more years of your attitude, your whining, and your all about me attitude. $10 million saved.
I ask you, Valley - are the three men above worth $47 million dollars guaranteed?
I say, no.
Sure we lost some great players but the safety spot has already been filled by the bringing in of Kerry Rhodes. Doucet and Breaston are ready to step in as 2nd option receivers for Leinart. And the defense- the defense will survive without Dansby.
Many are saying this is are building year now for the Cards. I agree - new QB, new safety, new linemen. Still, no one in the NFC West did anything to catch up. The Cardinals still have a great draft to come. They are still the premier team in their division. They are still the team to catch and beat. So sleep well Cardinal fans, things are not as bleak as you think they are. It is OK to come out and get back to being proud and confident Cardinal fans.
