TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona Cardinals have re-signed linebacker Monty Beisel to a one-year contract and released tight end Dominique Byrd.
Beisel rejoins the Cardinals after playing the previous three seasons in Arizona. He left this offseason and signed as a free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs where he appeared in three games and collected two tackles before being released on September 29.
The veteran originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick (107th overall) of the Chiefs in 2001 and played his first four seasons in Kansas City before playing with New England in 2005. He then signed as a free agent with the Cardinals in 2006 and appeared in 40 games (four starts) over the next three seasons collecting 56 tackles (37 solos), one interception and 48 special teams tackles. Beisel also appeared in all four postseason games for Arizona last season.
For his career, Beisel has played in 113 games (19 starts) and has collected 201 tackles (133 solos), 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, and 112 special teams tackles.
The Cardinals have also re-signed defensive end Jason Banks and linebacker Pago Togafau to the team's practice squad. They take the place of fullback Jed Collins and defensive tackle Antoine Holmes who were both released.
Banks was in training camp with the Cardinals before being placed on injured reserve (knee) on August 6. He was later released from injured reserve following an injury settlement.
Togafau rejoins the Cardinals after reaching an injury settlement following being placed on injured reserve (foot) on August 31. Togafau re-signed with the Cardinals last year and appeared in six regular season games collecting five tackles and 11 special teams tackles while also playing in all four postseason contests.
