Frye enjoying time with Suns

PHOENIX - When the Suns signed Channing Frye in the off-season after trading Shaquille O'Neal to Cleveland, many thought the team would be left with a gaping hole in the middle of the court.

While that may be true, Frye has done an excellent job so far of easing fears of the team not having a "traditional" center.

Frye is first on the team with 60 three pointers attempted, and as long as he is shooting at a 44 percent clip the team will ask him to keep firing away. The 6'11 player from the University of Arizona said he's likely to get yelled at if he passes up shots.

"You think about all the guys, you have to make decisions on who you're going to let shoot," he said. "For me it simplifies the game, and I think that is the biggest thing for everybody.

"It's easy for us to understand that every night is not going to be your night because teams are going to take away different things, so you have nothing to worry about."

The way he has fit into the system has contributed to Frye's enjoyment with his new team. Drafted by the New York Knicks with the8th pick in the 2005 draft, Frye spent two seasons back east before being traded to Portland before the 2007 season. After a pair of uneventful seasons with the Trail Blazers, Frye could not be happier to be playing for his hometown team.

"It's been more than what I thought [it would be]," he said. "I could have never imagined being in the situation right now that we're in...for us it was about coming out, having fun and just enjoying the game again.

"It's a truly blessed situation."
