"Illegal" Halloween costume sparks ire

LOS ANGELES - A Southern California immigrant rights group has asked Target stores to stop selling an "illegal alien" Halloween costume it says is offensive to immigrants.

The costume, posted on Target's web site, features the mask of an alien with a green card and an orange jumpsuit with "illegal alien" written across the front.

Target spokesman Joshua Thomas says the company is removing the costume from the site after receiving several complaints.

He says the store never intended to sell the outfit but included it in its online offerings by mistake.

Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, says she wrote an e-mail to the Minneapolis-based retailer Friday calling the costume "distasteful, mean-spirited, and ignorant of social stigmas and current debate on immigration reform."

    I will have to take back my political figure costume since it will offend people in Washington, and white people better not wear Obama costumes or black people better not wear McCain cotomes because it might be considered racist. Can't dress up as an animal or PITA will sue you and if you go as a movie star then the Screen Actors Guild will want thier piece of the pie.

    (IF THEY'RE LEGAL) what's the problem? It's all about the ILLEGAL ones as the name on the front of the uniform states. I think it's a great costume, and if anyone wears this one to my place on Halloween they get a TRIPLE reward. I say order more.

    I'm sick of people and companies giving in to these lowlifes. To hell with what illegal aliens or immigrant groups feel. Go to he.ll Target. Let these other people keep you in business.
