Wednesday NFC Champ Camp Bird Droppings

by Eric Sorenson (August 5th, 2009 @ 2:54pm)

Sports 620 KTAR producer Eric Sorenson gives notes on some of the sights up at NFC Champ Camp in Flagstaff from Wednesday morning's practice.

- The players seemed enjoy themselves at Wednesday morning's practice and why shouldn't they with overcast skies, a nice breeze, and temps in the high 70's. Ahh, Flagstaff.

- Loved the saxophone player who serenaded the crowd, and players for that matter, on the sidelines during this morning's workout here at NAU.

- Spotted a unique Cardinal jersey in the crowd...an old Jake Plummer one (circa late 1990's) with the Arizona State flag on the sleeve. The "Plummer" was crossed out on the back and "Leinart" was chicken-scratched in blue magic marker just above the nameplate. The guy even remembered to etch the number 7 on the back of the jersey.

- Got a good laugh out of the "Pay Q" shirts at practice Wednesday. My guess is another monster, Pro-Bowl year from Anquan Boldin, mixed with some savvy negotiating by agent Tom Condon, will eventually make all parties happy.

- You won't see #24 flying around the field here in Flagstaff. Don't worry, Adrian Wilson is out there, but wearing #2. "A-Dub" says the practice jersey switch (which started early last year) serves as personal motivation to become the #1 safety in the league.

- From the so-obvious-but-still-must-be-noted department...rookie Herman Johnson is BIG. Listed at 6'7, 382 pounds, the former LSU Tiger certainly looks the part. Standing next to him after Tuesday's afternoon session, I realized he's not fat, just massive - likely because the team placed him on a specific diet following selecting him in the fifth-round back in April.

- Good to see Levi Brown in mid-season form. The former first-round pick was whipped in one-on-one pass rush drills Tuesday afternoon by some guy named Jason Banks.

- Whiz didn't seem too thrilled when Wilson, Darnell Dockett...sorry "Nine-Oh," and Antrel Rolle raced off the practice field Tuesday on the newest NFC Champ Camp phenomenon. The Segway.

- In his own professional, unassuming way, Kurt Warner makes practice look ridiculously easy.
