This week marks National Teen Safe Driver's Week, and Ford Motor Co. is promoting a website for teens to check out and learn some safe driving tips.

"The number one cause of death of teenagers between the ages of 16 and 19 is vehicle crashes," said Ford's Jim Graham.

He said about 7,000 teens die in crashes every year.

The website, Driving Skills for Life, is part video game and part driver's test. It emphasizes road hazard recognition, vehicle handling, speed and space management. While the site is aimed at teens, Graham said moms and dads could benefit, too.

"It's very important we also get the parents involved because a lot of things that the parents are teaching the teens, in many cases, are not even correct. They haven't gone through the proper training themselves," said Graham.

Ford and the Governor's Highway Safety Association is conducting driving camps in 10 states, including Arizona.

Safety concerns cited on the website -- inexperience and distracted drivers -- have been emphasized before.

"You shouldn't be using cellphones and text-messaging while you're driving," Graham said. "The number of passengers is critical. All the research shows that one more passenger increases the likelihood of an accident."
