A man police believe is the so-called ``Bank Whisperer'' bandit was taken into custody following a standoff at a downtown Phoenix motel.
Police say the U.S. Marshal's Service tracked the 34-year-old suspect to a motel near 21st Avenue and Van Buren and attempted to arrest him about 6 p.m. Tuesday but the man barricaded himself in one of the rooms.
A woman also was in the room, according to police, but they don't think she was a hostage.
The suspect eventually was talked into surrendering some 4 hours later.
The man is a suspect in recent holdups at three Phoenix banks.
