A 27-year-old woman is in trouble with the law after a puppy was run over after she threw it behind a truck.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio says a 9-week-old pit bull puppy that belonged to Campo's boyfriend had to be euthanized after he accidentally ran over it while trying to get away from Lillian Campo.
Campo has been charged with animal abuse and could face other charges.
"It could be a variety of animal cruelty charges. We're not sure yet. We have to look at the case, but it could be many different charges," says Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
The sheriff's office says the July 3rd argument that sparked the incident at an apartment near 43rd Avenue and Glendale could have been worse.
Arpaio says that earlier in the dispute, Campo placed her 3-year-old daughter in front of the truck to prevent the boyfriend, identified as Gary Jeffries, from leaving.
She later "tossed" her 1-year-daughter into the back of the pickup truck.
Both times, Jefferies' sister, Debbie Minos, rescued the children.
Campo was arrested yesterday.
Arpaio says deputies are still investigating to see whether child abuse charges should be filed.
