NAU Prof. Hopes State Will Try to Harness Wind Power

A NAU professor says the answer to conserving the state's natural resources might just be blowing in the wind.
The goal of the project is to increase Arizona's use of the clean energy by encouraging developers and government agencies to harness wind power.
"Wind power is certainly a possibility, not just for conserving resources, but also for providing energy in a clean, green way. And it doesn't require water which in the future is going to be an issue for Arizona," says associate professor Dr. Susan Williams.
"Totally independent of locations, for instance, we don't have to buy the fuel so there's no price uncertainty there. And clean source that's right here in the state is a wise path for us to start pursuing."
She says wind power is cheaper than solar power and Arizona is certainly a 'wind friendly' state.
Williams says she hopes policy makers in the state will eventually view wind energy as a viable part of Arizona's energy portfolio and create policies that will promote wind power development.
