East Valley Tribune may not close

MESA, Ariz. - The popular East Valley Tribune, thought to be closing at the end of the year, may in fact get a second chance.

"Freedom Communications has received a letter of intent for the purchase of the operating assets and liabilities of the East Valley Tribune," said Robert Emmers of Freedom Communications.

Emmers said the prospective buyer has pledged to retain a s substantial of the East Valley Tribune's employees, but would not say who the interested party is.

A bankruptcy judge still has to approve the sale, however, because Freedom Communications filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy in September.
