PHOENIX - For the next three days thousands of men and women will trek through Valley streets to help find a cure for breast cancer.

It is the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day, with the weekend walk starting on Friday. Participants asked for the public's support in fighting the disease.

For instance, underneath Sally Cashman's petite frame lies the determination and strength of a prize fighter.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer last April, and has since run the gamut of treatments and emotions.

"One of the things that every woman who goes through breast cancer deals with is the emotional, the feminine, the family - all of those elements of your life that kind of get taxed by this," she said.

Cashman has lived through diagnosis, lumpectomy, radiation and a double mastectomy, but has stayed upbeat throughout the process.

"I really feel positive about my future," she said.

Cashman emphasized the importance of regular checkups and mammograms, saying they can be the difference between life and death.

"It's imperative that they do it," she said, "my cancer was found on a mammogram; I did not feel it."
