PHOENIX - Phoenix police say an armed man wearing a Halloween mask was severely beaten by a group of people he tried to rob at gunpoint.
Police spokesman Sgt. Andy Hill says 33-year-old Justin James Pare broke into a north Phoenix apartment through a kitchen window late Saturday night and tried to rob the man inside at gunpoint.
The man refused and ran out of his apartment.
Hill says Pare chased him and began waving the gun at neighbors who were at a party in the complex, demanding they give him their money and hitting a 32-year-old man in the head with his gun.
Meanwhile the man who had run out of his apartment grabbed a bat and hit Pare, causing him to drop two guns.
That's when neighbors jumped Pare and hit him multiple times with a bat and wooden board.
Pare is now at a local hospital with a skull fracture and a severe nose injury. Hill says the injuries are life-threatening.
