PHOENIX -- Boxer Mike Tyson's 4-year-old daughter has died from injuries suffered in an accident at her home.
Exodus Tyson got her neck caught Monday in a cable that was hanging from a treadmill in the play room of her central Phoenix home, police said.
She died at a hospital Tuesday after she was taken off life support.
After her death, the Tyson family issued a statement, saying there are no words to describe their loss.
"We ask you now to please respect our need at this very difficult time for privacy to grieve and try to help each other heal," the statement said.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Andy Hill said Exodus got caught in a power cable that was attached to a treadmill.
"Somehow, the girl was playing on it and managed to pull it down, obviously to the point where she ended up catching herself on her neck."
Hill said the child's mother had been cleaning the house and asked her 7-year-old son to go find his sister. he discovered her unconscious.
Hill said the mother removed the cable, called 911 and tried to revive the girl. Mike Tyson flew to Phoenix from Las Vegas Monday afternoon and went directly to the hospital.
Hill said the incident appeared to be a tragic accident.
"Parents do everything they can and need to continue to do everything they can to keep their kids safe, but sometimes tragic accidents occur."
Neighbors of the family said they were nice people.
Mohammad Khalik, who lives next door, said, "It's really tragic. She is a really beautiful little girl. It's really sad to hear."
Khalik said he often saw the girl playing in her front yard.
Dinka Radik, who lives across the street, said the girl and her 7-year-old brother often came to her house and she gave them chocolate. She said if she had none, they would ask if she would have it next time and she would say yes.
