Rapper DMX, already in trouble at the Maricopa County Jail, faces a new charge of aggravated assault on an officer.
"We had him on bread and water because of problems in the tents, then he threw food at my officer, so he's going to be charged with assault," Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio told News/Talk 92-3 KTAR's Darrell Ankarlo on Wednesday.
DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was sentenced Jan. 30 to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to drug and animal cruelty charges. He ended up on a bread and water diet after allegedly verbally assaulting jail officers.
Arpaio's spokeswoman, Lisa Allen, said of the latest problems, "He was apparently ticked off at the type of food he was being served and tried to grab a different kind of meal. He was told not to take that meal and told the officer to blank off and threw the tray at the officer."
Simmons could be sent to prison if convicted of an assault charge for the jail incident.
Simmons has been arrested five times by MCSO for various crimes, including drug possession, animal cruelty and defrauding a local hospital.
"This inmate has a serious anger management issue and shouldn't be allowed out of jail or prison until he has it under control," Arpaio said in a press release.
