Two tunnels found under border at Nogales

Two more tunnels under the Arizona-Mexico border -- one of them still under construction -- have been discovered near downtown Nogales.
Officials from Nogales, Arizona, and Nogales, Sonora, discovered the tunnels while inspecting the legal underground tunnel system, authorities said.
Both clandestine tunnels were located within the Grand Avenue Tunnel, which parallels the International Boundary Fence for about three-quarters of a mile in Mexico, then turns north into the United States.
The first clandestine tunnel was west of the DeConcini Port of Entry and traveled a considerable distance into the United States. Authorities said they have not found the exit point. The tunnel was located in an area known for illegal alien and drug smuggling.
The second tunnel is slightly east of the first and still was in the process of being constructed, with elaborate wood shoring for the walls and ceiling.
Nine tunnels have been discovered in southern Arizona since the start of the new fiscal year last October, Border Patrol and customs officials said.
