One Valley Hispanic activist hopes for immigration reform during the upcoming Obama administration.

Elias Bermudez, a Republican, supported Sen. John McCain for president and thinks that, with more Hispanic support, McCain could have won.

But, now that Barack Obama will be taking office in January, and with Democrats controlling Congress, Bermudez hopes comprehensive immigration reform will be passed by the end of 2009.

"They should solve this problem for the benefit of America and Americans," Bermudez said on the News/Talk 92-3 KTAR's "Jay Lawrence Show."

The reform should include "regularization" of illegal immigrants currently in the United States, Bermudez said.

"Basically, what we need to do is get on the job. Keep those people that we need and tell those people that we don't need -- like they do in every company, give them a pink slip," he said.
