TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State will start a different quarterback for the third week in a row with Dennis Erickson's announcement that Samson Szakacsy will get the nod at UCLA Saturday.
"He's had a good week of practice and done a good job with that first group, I like what I've seen so we're going to let him go and see what happens," Head Coach Dennis Erickson said of Szakacsy Thursday.
The sophomore Szakacsy has practiced much of the week with the first team and has not showed any signs of his elbow flaring up - though the coaches will monitor the elbow after each practice.
Senior Danny Sullivan started every game until being held out of the Oregon game with a biceps injury.
Sullivan had been practicing all week and making all the necessary throws.
Szakacsy's mobility makes him a threat in goaline and short yardage packages, and he showed accuracy with his throws after relieving freshman Brock Osweiler in Oregon.
The Sun Devils will need to win Saturday at UCLA and also win against Arizona on November 28 to become bowl eligible.
