The next time you get a ticket, you can go online and tell the world how the officer treated you.

Rebecca Costell is one of the creators of ratemycop.com, launched a week ago with the names of officers from 450 law enforcement agencies across the country. Included are the names of about 4,000 officers from the Phoenix, Tempe, Gilbert and Peoria Police Departments.

``Our goal is to build an active forum where the public can work cooperatively with law enforcement, hopefully to re-enforce trust," said Costell, encouraging people to speak up, but be responsible.

``We want people to put up their honest opinions," Costell said. ``At the same time, we want to protect the officers. If we see that anybody's threatening or putting up anything that shouldn't be put up, we're going to kick those comments out."

Mike Tellef with Peoria Police said the department will use the website as a tool.

``We'd be crazy if we didn't take advantage of this," Tellef said. ``We have an obligation to ensure that the services that we're providing to the public are the utmost and the best that we can give them for their taxpayer dollar."

Tellef added, ``We welcome the feedback. This is just another forum for us to take a look. If we see a lot of comments about a particular officer, that doesn't mean the officer is doing anything wrong, but we do need to maybe take a look and see if there is any validity to the comments."

The website was created by a California group. Creators said it's not intended to bash law enforcement, but to provide feedback and encourage improvement when necessary.
