TEMPE - The Arizona State Sun Devils will need to start winning games in the next few weeks in order to have a winning season and go to a bowl game, but it won't be easy.
ASU(4-4) finishes out their season with games aginst USC, Oregon, UCLA and Arizona.
"It doesn't get much tougher," said coach Dennis Erickson.
The team is still dealing with the disappointment of last weekend's 23-21 loss against California when they lost on a last second field goal.
"It's a tough feeling we're dealing with. You almost would rather lose a game bad then lose one like that," said Erickson.
The loss was especially difficult considering it was ASU's second game lost on a last minute field goal.
"We're right there. We just got to keep a positive attitude and pushing forward," said quarterback Danny Sullivan.
It only gets tougher for ASU this week as they will be taking on powerhouse USC.
Even though the Trojans are coming off an embarrassing loss against the Oregon Ducks, coach Erickson doesn't buy into the idea that USC isn't as good this year.
"They're still a great football team and program. They just keep re-loading," said Erickson.
Even so, Danny Sullivan doesn't see why ASU can't get a win.
"Eventually we got to get one of these big wins against a top tier opponent so let it be this week," said Sullivan.
Sullivan has been under heavy criticism from the fans and the media, but remains upbeat about playing.
"If I'm not having fun, then I might as well walk out the door. If you can't have fun playing this game, then you shouldn't be playing it," said Sullivan.
Erickson announced that the team will continue to use back-up quarterback Samson Szakacsy on a limited basis in goal line and short yardage situations to take advantage of his athleticism.
Sullivan knows the offense needs to get off to faster starts. The team started off trailing 10-0 to Stanford and 14-0 against California.
"We got to get ourselves in a better situation to maintain throughout the game," said Sullivan.
Still, ASU knows they just need to start getting wins if they are going to salvage their season.
"We know we're a pretty good football team. We just got to get over that hump and pull one out here," said Erickson.
