PHOENIX - The Phoenix Suns have gotten off a good start at 3-0, but the team will be tested on their upcoming road trip.
"We play arguably the best two teams in the league on this trip when you talk about Boston and Orlando. They're both playing great basketball," said coach Alvin Gentry.
The Suns depart on a five game eastern conference road trip this week. The trip starts against the Miami Heat on Tuesday followed by stops in Orlando(Magic) on Wednesday, Boston(Celtics) on Friday, Washington(Wizards) on Sunday and concludes on Monday against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Suns are currently one of five undefeated teams in the NBA and will be facing three of the other four unbeatens during this trip in Miami, Orlando and Boston.
The Suns feel confident that their offense can contend with some of the tough defensive teams they wil be facing.
"They got to figure it out. A lot of teams are having a hard time figuring it out either to let Stoudemire finish at the basket or letting the wing players shoot the three's. Right now, they're letting the wing players shoot and they're just knocking them down," said Amare Stoudemire.
When the Suns face the Orlando Magic, their ability to rebound, which is one of the team's weaknesses, will be tested due to going up against All-Star center Dwight Howard.
"We got to keep him off the boards. He just gravitates to the rebounds. If we try to keep him off the boards, that'll be a great help for us," said Stoudemire.
Coach Gentry plans to use the Suns' newest player, Jarron Collins to combat the great rebounding teams the team will play on this trip.
"We'll be able to throw him into the mix. He just gives us more size," said Gentry.
Still, the Suns live and die with their offense and the team will only get better in that department as Amare Stoudemire continues to return to form following eye surgery.
Coach Gentry expressed patience from the fans towards the team's star player.
"It's not going to happen overnight. People want him to be the old Amare, but realistically it's going to take awhile for him to get back there," said Gentry.
Still, Gentry is seeing improvement from Stoudemire on a weekly basis.
"He's getting better every week, but some of the things he couldn't finish last night in the game, 10-15 games games from now he'll be finishing all of that," said Gentry.
For the time being, Gentry just wants Amare to continue being aggressive in the paint as that opens up the rest of the team's offense.
"He's still getting guys shots. He rolls down through there and still attracts a crowd which just opens up the perimeter for us," said Gentry.
