Hale, Bundy will not return as D-back coaches

by Sports 620 KTAR (October 5th, 2009 @ 1:07pm)

PHOENIX - A day after the Arizona Diamondbacks finished their season A.J. Hinch announced third base coach Chip Hale and first base coach Lorenzo Bundy would not return next season.

"I wanted to have an opportunity to make a change and move forward with some different voices and different roles," Hinch said on Monday afternoon.

Hale was the Diamondbacks third base coach the past three seasons after managing the Diamondbacks Triple-A team in Tucson from 2004-06. He was also a Double-A and Rookie ball manager in the organization.

Bundy previously was with the organization as hitting coach from 2003-06 before managing the Las Vegas 51s - the Los Angeles Dodgers Triple-A affiliate. This season was Bundy's first season as the D-backs first base coach.

The Diamondbacks also announced a two-year extension for bench coack Kirk Gibson.

Both coaches that joined the team mid-season with Hinch - batting coach Jack Howell and pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre - will remain with the team as will bullpen coach Glenn Sherlock.

Hinch said the coaching positions have not been filled and an announcement be made once they are.

The Diamondbacks finished the season 70-92, last in the National League West.

..what sort of bozo's AJ decides to hire. In keeping with thier current business model, I'm sure it will be some no name, with little to know coaching expirence, but does have a degree from an impressive school. Or are those sort of folks only hired as managers for this orginazation? Does anyone miss Jerry Colangelo?

Watching the Twins/Tigers game tonite is a prime example of how far away we are from ever playing with that sort of passion. We got frat boys playing baseball like they're on Playstation. We're stuck with Dopey in left who has to be the biggest waste of money since the pottery on the 51 freeway. So now they're playing musical chairs with the coaches like that's gunna make a difference. All that means is we're stuck with a manager that doesn't know jack, the upside is that the Dbacks are making it easy for me to choose which pro teams get my hard earned dollar, guess what Dbacks, you ain't one.

LOL...SO FUNNY READING THESE OTHER COMMENTS....THEY ALL HIT IT RIGHT ON THE NAIL...AJ BELONGS BACK UP IN THE FRONT OFFICE SO HIM AND HIS BUDDY JOSH CAN KICK TRIANGLE PAPER FOOTBALLS WITH THEIR FINGERS BETWEEN EACHOTHERS HANDS AT THEIR DESK.WHO THINKS JOSH IS A GOOD GM?? I SURE DON'T...WHO THINKS AJ DID BETTER THAN BOB MELVIN?...I SURE DON'T....I THINK THE ONLY REASON THEY HAVE THEIR JOBS IS BECAUSE THEY BOTH KISS KEN KENDRICKS BUTT AND HE REWARDS THEM.....NO WAY CHIP HALE SHOULD HAVE BEEN LET GO, AND I REALLY LOST RESPECT FOR KIRK GIBSON FOR SIGNING ON LONGER AS AJ'S BENCH COACH..

AJ Hinch is a " joke " to the D-Back organization; the job is way over his head & he looks like a little kid wanting to get an autograph; bring someone in that knows something about running a first class operation PS : When is anyone going to correct Chris Young's batting woes---he strangles the bat; everything he hits goes to the left side; swing needs shorten up big time; this kid needs big time coaching----he has had these problems since day one but the organization got overwhelmed by his first year stats; need the same thing with Byrnes who is a bench player at best

in the heck is wrong with this organization. First they hire a manager who didn't even know how to fill out a line-up card, or make a double switch when they named him as manager. Now they give him the authority to fire coaches like Chip Hale so he can bring in some nobody friend of his that never been inside a ballpark. AJ thinks he deserves respect because he's the manager. I have news for you AJ, respect is earned not given. Wait until next year, when Brandon Webb, Stephen Drew, Eric Byrnes, Augie Ojeda, Chris Snyder, Doug Davis, and countless others are not here.
